If you’re using a dual gauge regulator, chances are it’ll have the ability to bring pressure into and out of your gas cylinder. Though, even if your regulator doesn’t have a display gauge in any form, they will always still at least have the ability to output gas pressure, which is the point of any gas regulator.

Some of the more basic regulators will have pressure control in the form of a little screw. Others will come equipped with a knob that allows for better and more precise pressure control.
Most of these knobs are meant for protection against any potential damage to the regulator itself. It allows for a more durable and stronger gas regulator with shock-absorbing technology. Why the shock-absorption? Simply put, it’ll prevent damage to the regulator in case something were to bang into it or if the tank itself were to tip over and fall. The impact of a damaged gas tank can sometimes lead to gas leaking out of the regulator.
The interior material is powerful enough to take the blow of a damaged or mishandled gas tank. The safety knob channels the impact toward the rim of the knob. This keeps it away from the center, which is where the regulator and tank nozzle align to get the gas flowing. A dent in that smooth flow can easily break heavy the duty material, sometimes to the point where it can explode.
